Quinte West council has supported the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus’ $3.1 billion 7 in 7 housing project, which aims to build 7,000 new units in Eastern Ontario within seven years. The project, which is supported by local councils and provincial and federal government assistance, aims to address the housing shortage in 13 counties, including Hastings County, where up to 14,000 people are on a wait list for social housing. The project also aims to encourage public-private partnerships, potentially resulting in 28,000 new units in Eastern Ontario. The project is expected to begin construction in the fall of 2023.
