Eastern Ontario, January 25, 2021 – Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) Members today join hundreds of participants from across the province at the 2021 Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) Conference. For the first time ever, the conference—which takes place today and tomorrow—will be held entirely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is a key moment for municipal and provincial officials to connect on the unique challenges faced by rural municipalities. The program features plenary sessions and workshops touching on everything from the economic recovery to health care, broadband and environmental matters.
Key presenters include Ontario Premier Doug Ford, opposition leaders, and key provincial ministers. Other speakers include Maryam Monsef, Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development, AMO President Graydon Smith, and political affairs columnist Chantal Hébert.
In addition to the conference program, municipal elected officials will take part in hundreds of online delegation meetings with provincial ministries.
Led by Chair Debbie Robinson and Vice-Chair Liz Danielsen, the Caucus will participate in delegation meetings with Provincial officials and the NDP Caucus on matters related to the EOWC’s key priorities including:
Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN) Cellular Network Gap and Mobile Broadband Improvement Project;
- Long-Term Care;
- Municipal Recovery; and
- Affordable Housing.
