Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus Discussed Regional Housing Plan at ROMA 2023

Published by the Kingstonist – January 31, 2023

The Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC) has gathered at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) 2023 Conference in Toronto to advocate for regional priorities. The EOWC, a non-profit organization representing 13 upper and single-tier municipalities, supports and advocates on behalf of 103 municipalities and nearly 800,000 residents.

The conference focused on the ‘7 in 7’ regional housing plan, which aims to build 7,000 affordable community rental housing units over seven years. The EOWC aims to meet the Ontario Government’s target of building 1.5 million homes by 2031 and aims to address the housing supply shortage in rural communities. The EOWC will work with a consultant to develop a strong business case for the plan. The organization has met with provincial and federal elected officials and staff to share the plan proposal and gain feedback.
